I have so much fun at each and every photo session, but honestly this was one of my most favorite sessions because I truly love the location - and the views - thanks to Mother Nature!
Winter can be both beautiful and harsh, and the uniqueness of Cave Point County Park truly illustrates that. (I recommend visiting this park in ANY season, but do be careful if you go in winter!) On this particular visit, we were given a windy day which made for waves crashing against the shore and a characteristically dramatic background. Upon arrival, it was instantly clear that water had been splashing against the trees and the shore quite regularly that winter - since tons of tiny, delicate icicles lined the rocks and foliage along the shore. I was truly enamored with this beautiful sight and so excited Megan and Nick were not shying away from the cold!
Indeed, Megan and Nick were truly troopers, sticking it out in very cold weather and occasionally being blasted with mist from the waves. I do not remember the exact temperature, but with the wind off Lake Michigan as strong as it was, it was definitely cold! I immediately explained a few hand signs I would use throughout the session when I wanted to motion for them to switch poses, since the sound of the water crashing against the shore was quite loud and hard to hear over. Lastly, hiking boots are a must at this location, because with all the water splashing onto the shore there are many slick and icy patches that require you to use caution on.
We started at the waters edge to capture some of the drama of the waves in the background. Since the area has so much to offer, we also ventured into the trees a bit to get a variety of photos, as well as down the road to Whitefish Dunes State Park We took a couple breaks to warm up in the car, and allow Megan and Nick to change outfits. Again, it was SUPER cold, but that did not stop Megan and Nick from being super great to work with! Like many of my couples, they brought a couple ideas of their own, and also were down for any ideas I had for them! Check out a few of my favorite photos from their session below.
Lastly, I am also getting into videography, and very passionate about nature and travel photography in general. So, after we finished Megan and Nick's portrait session, I headed back to the shore to get some footage of the waves.
