This session was one of my favorites! The family was so sweet and such a pleasure to work with. Jim Sherry reached out to me directly via email after having found me on Yelp. He explained his wife, Patti, was turning 80 (joining their friends who were already octogenarians) and that the family was getting together in Kohler to celebrate! He asked if I would be able to come photograph the occasion, and luckily I was available! Since it was already November, the American Club made a great indoor backdrop for our photoshoot!
The American Club is a 5 star, 5 diamond world class resort owned by Kohler company. It opened as a hotel in 1981, but it was not always a luxury destination. In 1918 it was originally built as a dormitory for single male immigrant employees of Kohler. Decades later the building was no longer needed for housing and sitting abandoned. It was the late Herbert V Kohler Jr. (affectionately known as Mr. Kohler) who had the idea to turn the building into an elegant inn.
After many repairs, the American icon was officially reborn and landed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, guests come from around the world to stay in it's beautifully crafted rooms, visit the Five Star Kohler Waters Spa, enjoy fine dinning, or golf at Kohler's award winning golf courses. Jim and his family were no different in wanting the best for this momentous occasion!
Incase you are wondering how I am so knowledgeable about this distinct piece of history (First of all, my husband is a big history buff!) but second of all, my current day job is in fact Operations Specialist at Kohler Company! There is truly so much to learn and appreciate at Kohler Company. The community and company overall are rich with history, and a strong sense of pride for creating quality products and experiences. So, I was very excited when Jim reached out inquiring about a session at the American Club which I was already so familiar with.
Our photo session consisted of full group photos (13 family members in total), smaller family groupings, and all the grandkids with Jim and Sherry (grandparents). One of my favorite moments, was when the entire family surprised Patti by wearing matching T-shirts with her face on them! All in all, it was such a special occasion. The family was so friendly and fun, and I was blessed to be able to capture these moments for them!
Doesn't Patti look absolutely radiant at 80? I can only hope I am still as beautiful, kind, and healthy at her age! :) #goals
